Another significant benefit of learning music is that it has the ability to change the perspective of the listener. â€Å"Music is not only able to affect your mood -- listening to particularly happy or sad music can even change the way we perceive the world, according to researchers from the University of Groningen† (U of G 1). Music has a way of affecting those who are listening in a certain way, people choosing a song based on how they feel at that very moment. Although there are many genres of music, they all fall under the same categories of feelings, feelings being sad, happy, scared etc. All these feelings are enhanced or changed depending on the listeners goals. If one is sad and listens to sad music, they will most likely continue to†¦show more content†¦Apart from certain issues that one could have medically that would cause this, those happy people are happy because of the way they perceive the world and how they choose to handle the great and bad things th at come with it. In some cases, it was even reported that music could actually relieve depression. Researchers do say the the kind of music is dependent on this, being that classical music and not metal will actually benefit more. When you’re feeling down in the dumps, music can help pick you up (much like exercise) Research suggests the kind of music matters: Classical and meditative sounds seem to be particularly uplifting, whereas heavy metal and techno can actually make depressive symptoms worse (Christ 12). Something that also goes along with depression is anxiety, the serious fear of something being wrong at all times. Not only is this a disorder, but it is also something many experience on a day to day basis. Music has been reported to relieve the feeling of anxiety by placing as a distraction in one’s mind, resulting in an eased mind for those who easily become absorbed in tasks. Researchers actually did a study, evaluating psychologic responses with music. Th e subjects used for the study were instructed to listen to music and identify abnormalities in the tones.
